I did think that Reebok at least was a local sports company made good and it was more of a 'partnership' than having the ground named after a tin of bins invented in Germany, so it's OK to be sad that's where we're going (in four years maybe) imo.

I know it is a brand name, but I never thought of the Bok in the same ridiculous vein as, say, the KitKat Crescent. Chorley's at one point was The Chorley Nissan Victory Park Stadium which is stupid, ugly, and just confusing.

Now that Reebok are no longer paying us money to sponsor the stadium, it would not make any sense to keep the name. A change was going to happen anyway so at least it stops people suggesting, commenting on and voting on a different title. If we are getting paid a few million pounds for the Macron Stadium, then that is fine with me.

I'd be interested to know how much they were actually paying us. It's alright saying 'football is a business', but people were using that as justification to having a payday loan firm on our shirts who were paying practically nothing.

So, let's say £350,000 per season. That's the cost of a reserve player that we seem to spunk money on each year without ever using, not even including the wages!

Gartside's been quite open about the fact that the stadium's naming rights would go to the highest bidder as soon as the Reebok deal ran out. Without knowing any of the precise details we've clearly struck a structured deal with Macron involving both the naming of the stadium and sales of replica kits similar to that struck with Reebok initially. The stadium was always going to have a name change, live with it, and I don't see many blue chip organisations that even have hoardings around the pitch now, let alone backing us to this extent. Well done to all involved in this deal, I say.

I suspect the "renaming rights" to a stadium will always be sold for less than the naming rights, since (as others have mentioned) they tend to be referred to by their previous names anyway. I'd be interested to see some data either way. But not interested enough to go looking for any.

I assume, Bruce, from the first part of his post, that he doesn't want it sponsored by any blue-chip company, and would rather not have the cash and call it "New Burnden" or "The Nat Lofthouse Stadium" or something.

Which is nice and idealistic, but probably unrealistic.
