Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
Despite him worrying the shxt out of me at times, I'm beginning to feel a wee bit sorry for Douglas. He's trying to compete on a very uneven playing field with guys with money when he obviously has none. A bit like seeing punters banging big money on favourites and you putting a pound each way on a wing and a prayer chance. Much is up to the players and I just hope he can get them motivated to fight like Bolton Wanderers.

Mark is a quality player but are they having a laugh?
Reminds me more of Jack Wilshere than Iniesta.
He deserves better than QPR aswell.
He's got talent but hasn't shown anything significant here yet.
I will be surprised if a premiership club came in for him at this point. Have a good first half of the season, catch some headlines and it might be different....
That's why Swansea bid 5 million for him and why others are showing interest.
I'd rather have Juke than Mark Davies for next season.
And I'd not pay £5m for Juke. But his impact for this club has been bigger than Davies' has yet.
Not doubting Davies' talent. But he has to show more than flashes before he can be regarded of deserving or even being good enough for top flight football, IMO.
I think Mavies has shown that he's more deserving of prem football than Juke. Davies played well for us in the top tier, Jutkiewicz scored 7 in the championship for us.
''Amazing! Out of nothing Bolton are level. A quick throw, Kevin Nolan keeps play alive in the box and finds Kevin Davies on the left who lashes a shot under Oliver Kahn.''

When Nolan was at his best he was an absolute driving force for our side. Game in game out. He's done similar at West Ham.Prufrock wrote:I think it's unfair to say he's shown it in flashes. That implies he's inconsistent by nature which I don't think he is. He's consistently good, but he's also injury-prone.
Mark Davies for me has never been absolutely centrally critical. He perhaps was when he got injured, and I'm far from blaming him per se.
But how many times can we say we really really lost Davies' impact in the same way we did for Holden and even Muamba at times?
My point is he has to become absolutely central to us rather than someone who is very talented and plays well sometimes......

he does seem to be talented, but drifts in and out of a game. If he's worth anything, get rid.
What a hero, What a man...... Ooooh, what a bad foul...
Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
I would say he is better than Holden but not Muamba, I don't think any of the above are essential to our team because we don't seem to have stars any more.BWFC_Insane wrote:When Nolan was at his best he was an absolute driving force for our side. Who was that South African bloke we were chasing years ago along with Celtic, Blackburn etc? He eventually signed for Pompey and I don't think he ever played a game for them. Penniless and unemployable from the sound of it. Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
I think that misses the less obvious stuff he does for us. The driving at the defence making things happen bit is inconsistent, but tbf people who can do that regularly cost £25m. He's the only one in the middle with a brain (which is odd given the stories of his intelligence off the pitch!) If you're going to create space in the final third you've got to move teams about before then. It's no use playing in slow straight lines until you're 30 yards out. He's the only one of our midfielders who'll come and get the ball off the centre-half, turn and then stick a ball five yards in front of a reluctant full back and make them get on the front foot. That kind of probing often goes unnoticed but he's fecking good at it.BWFC_Insane wrote:When Nolan was at his best he was an absolute driving force for our side. Game in game out. The rest of them look like footballers when he plays. Plenty of them don't when he doesn't.Worthy4England wrote:I guess, I must just be unnoticing quite a lot.

Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
Sometimes. Sometimes not. If I look at that pikey Stephen Hunt, he seems to drive whichever team he's playing for every fecking game (against us). Mavies does it about 1 game in 10.Prufrock wrote:The rest of them look like footballers when he plays. Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
Mavies is nothing special IMO. Never performed for us in the prem. No one can find a position for him because he doesn't have an all-round game. Contributed very little since he signed. Constantly injured. People seem to rate him because he can dribble a bit but what few people seem to get, is that's not a very effective asset. I wonder if the same people who rate Mavies also rated Eagles. The only thing he's got in common with Iniesta is his height!

I'm not sure it is a question of talent. Mark Davies has talent.Spartan2 wrote:Mavies is nothing special IMO. Never performed for us in the prem. But he's 26 and hasn't come close to being the player Kevin Nolan was for is. I use Nolan as an example, because whilst he is a different type of player they essentially both play as attacking midfield players.
I don't think any premiership side would pick Davies ahead of Nolan. And that's where he is for me. In the pool of players who have lots of talent but by the age of 26 haven't really done anything of any great note.
I like Mark Davies and hope we keep him because I think he can offer something. But he's actually got to perform this season and make a real sustained difference. An actual difference in terms of end product and controlling the midfield. Not the odd run then 10 minutes of nothing. If he does that for a season then perhaps you can talk in terms of earning a premiership chance. But let's see.....

I'm sorta with you, but I actually think Eagles had contributed more in his time with us.Spartan2 wrote:Mavies is nothing special IMO. Never performed for us in the prem.
