Not so sure on that. Different scenario. You might not get the most respected experts already in the game but we built a team under Allardyce that led the way. We weren't the most attractive footballing club then but we did things that others didn't and that attracts those backroom staff.TANGODANCER wrote:Which, given our current status that won't be anyone queuing up to join Bolton. It doesn't matter how efficient medical staffs are, they cannot prevent injury (have we actually had a season in recent memory where we didn't have a long-term sicknote fusileer on the books?), and all the sports science in the world can't guarantee a single, solitary thing. If it could there'd be one criteria for all instead of forty seven different specialists all claiming there's is the magic method. At one time we reared tough dandelions at threepence a bunch, now we grow orchids that need Hilton Hotel maintenance and get homesick for their own greenhouses after a fortnight.We need to be in a position where these people are the best experts we can attract
Mark Davies? So really, we're back to same old, same old. Every time we have a half-decent player somebody hawks them away. Not really a club fault, just a fact of life. We sell them off, can't afford decent replacements and still expect to win promotion back to Wonderworld? Welcome to season 201/15...![]()
COME ON YOU WHITES..
But it is about having the best setups there you can and ones that aren't dependent upon the managerial team. I really hope the club have learned that a manager leaving shouldn't rip everything apart.

Seeing how uncreative we are when he's not playing and the fact we finished so far down the fvckin' table last season, shows how important a fit Mark Davies is to us.

I don't understand this argument? Surely the huge ppg increase when a proper striker joined showed that was in the main what we missed last season? We were I think on play-off form at least counting the games Juke played.boltonboris wrote:Seeing how uncreative we are when he's not playing and the fact we finished so far down the fvckin' table last season, shows how important a fit Mark Davies is to us.

I'm not sure you could quantify how much we missed Davies yet as he's never really IMO shown a full impact over a season where he's been the main man. I look forward to seeing what he can do next season as I think he's a lot of ability. But that needs to be shown week in week out.

Yes, is that really likely, though?BWFC_Insane wrote: But it is about having the best setups there you can and ones that aren't dependent upon the managerial team. I really hope the club have learned that a manager leaving shouldn't rip everything apart.
After all, the incoming manager wants to bring in a team that he's "satisfied with" - then he can say, "wait until I've got my own team in place and functioning before you judge me".
If there's already a team there, it's going to cut the new chap's honeymoon period down quite considerably, isn't it?
How long has Freedman got left on his contract, by the way? Is it up at the end of this season, or is there another one to go?

I don't mean the immediate team. Obviously they go with the manager, Lennie Lawrence, Curtis Fleming etc....and any manager incoming would want their own staff in there.Puskas wrote:Yes, is that really likely, though?BWFC_Insane wrote: But it is about having the best setups there you can and ones that aren't dependent upon the managerial team. But the backroom setup like the medical team, sports science etc should IMO remain consistent and you should appoint someone who works in a similar way with those staff. Other sides have done that and kept continuity.

EH????
I can't agree with that.
He flatters to deceive, he beats people with ease then gives it away or balloons it wide.
If he was that good and knowing how potless we are, don't you think more teams would be sniffing around?

Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
Whilst looking for something else I came across this comment by a West Ham reporter after we beat them 2-1 under Sam Allardyce. (Kev Nolan and Ivan Campo scored and Sherringham got a last minute penalty for them)
" Bolton are a unified and disciplined professional operation. They did not come sixth last year by mistake."
Come back Sam, all is forgiven...

The upturn in form also coincided with Mark Davies getting fit (coming about 6-8 weeks after he returned from 10 months out) and a change in system which suited him. Juke certainly played a park, but so did Davies. PPG is one thing, but it's a bit much to expect him to come back from 10 months out and immediately start running the show.BWFC_Insane wrote:I don't understand this argument? I personally wouldn't go as far as saying he's the best in the division, but I don't think it's a ridiculous statement.

Aye I wouldn't expect him to. But IF he's anywhere as good as people make out then he should be doing that regularly next season. Not just here or there. That for me is the real test for him.Prufrock wrote:The upturn in form also coincided with Mark Davies getting fit (coming about 6-8 weeks after he returned from 10 months out) and a change in system which suited him. Can he run Bolton's midfield next season.
Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
Yup, that's fair. I'm not sure it will happen, but more to do with injuries than anything else.

The upturn in for was due to the Juke being unplayable and putting the ball in the net, nothing to do with Davies.

So he's better than Jordan Rhodes?

I've said it before but look through the squad list and tell me how many individuals in it you're actually looking forward to watching play football this season.
I've managed to come up with a list of one plus maybe some of the kids just because they're unknowns... although they probably won't get much playing time anyway.

I agree. Though the same would have been said of Burnley's team last season. Probably Leicester's too.Athers wrote:I've said it before but look through the squad list and tell me how many individuals in it you're actually looking forward to watching play football this season.

Not that I'm saying we will repeat what they did. Just that a solid team behind a goalscorer or two works well in this league I think.

Midfield General Darren Pratley (the Championship Cruyff);
Liam "Liam" Trotter;
Creativity's Neil Danns.
There you go. Excitement guaranteed. In fact they could just bin the rest of the team off and play those three. Take on the league 3-against-11.
That'd be good.

Fecking great, another signing that won't improve the first team. Just what we need.
Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
Find it v difficult to get worked up about stuff like this. I'd be surprised if Freedman had more than copy approval on deals like this, and the difference to the budget, if it fact it isn't a separate budget in itself, will be negligible. If we turn up on the first day without a striker and Freedman says 'oh yeah, I forgot, I was too busy spending all my time on signing that Taylor lad for the under 21s' then fair enough, but I doubt it somehow.
