Which, given our current status that won't be anyone queuing up to join Bolton. It doesn't matter how efficient medical staffs are, they cannot prevent injury (have we actually had a season in recent memory where we didn't have a long-term sicknote fusileer on the books?), and all the sports science in the world can't guarantee a single, solitary thing. If it could there'd be one criteria for all instead of forty seven different specialists all claiming there's is the magic method. At one time we reared tough dandelions at threepence a bunch, now we grow orchids that need Hilton Hotel maintenance and get homesick for their own greenhouses after a fortnight.

Mark Davies? So really, we're back to same old, same old. Every time we have a half-decent player somebody hawks them away. Not really a club fault, just a fact of life. We sell them off, can't afford decent replacements and still expect to win promotion back to Wonderworld? Welcome to season 201/15...

Not so sure on that. Different scenario. You might not get the most respected experts already in the game but we built a team under Allardyce that led the way. We weren't the most attractive footballing club then but we did things that others didn't and that attracts those backroom staff.

But it is about having the best setups there you can and ones that aren't dependent upon the managerial team. I really hope the club have learned that a manager leaving shouldn't rip everything apart.

I don't understand this argument? Surely the huge ppg increase when a proper striker joined showed that was in the main what we missed last season? We were I think on play-off form at least counting the games Juke played.

I'm not sure you could quantify how much we missed Davies yet as he's never really IMO shown a full impact over a season where he's been the main man. I look forward to seeing what he can do next season as I think he's a lot of ability. But that needs to be shown week in week out.

I don't mean the immediate team. Obviously they go with the manager, Lennie Lawrence, Curtis Fleming etc....and any manager incoming would want their own staff in there.

But the backroom setup like the medical team, sports science etc should IMO remain consistent and you should appoint someone who works in a similar way with those staff. Other sides have done that and kept continuity.

He flatters to deceive, he beats people with ease then gives it away or balloons it wide.

If he was that good and knowing how potless we are, don't you think more teams would be sniffing around?

I personally wouldn't go as far as saying he's the best in the division, but I don't think it's a ridiculous statement.

Aye I wouldn't expect him to. But IF he's anywhere as good as people make out then he should be doing that regularly next season. Not just here or there. That for me is the real test for him.

The upturn in for was due to the Juke being unplayable and putting the ball in the net, nothing to do with Davies.

I've managed to come up with a list of one plus maybe some of the kids just because they're unknowns... although they probably won't get much playing time anyway.

I agree. Though the same would have been said of Burnley's team last season. Probably Leicester's too.

Find it v difficult to get worked up about stuff like this. I'd be surprised if Freedman had more than copy approval on deals like this, and the difference to the budget, if it fact it isn't a separate budget in itself, will be negligible. If we turn up on the first day without a striker and Freedman says 'oh yeah, I forgot, I was too busy spending all my time on signing that Taylor lad for the under 21s' then fair enough, but I doubt it somehow.
