Talking about Keith Andrews in the BN, this made me smile...

Wanderers had moved on in Andrews’ absence. Freedman wanted pace in his midfield and was looking towards Spearing, Medo, Vela and Liam Trotter.

Is Andrews really slower than Trotter?

He's a defender who can't defend! Being good on the ball (if we're ignoring Boris' favourite square ball to no-one) is an added bonus for a centre-half. He was certainly much better last year than the year before and I think that along with, as you say, the distinct lack of competition, deadline day loanee aside, meant he did well at the awards. Nevertheless, and despite having some v good games, he still had some horror shows too. He's still weak, still indecisive, and still gets himself wrong-side. His performance at Reading (where no-one covered themself in glory) was particularly laughable.

It's fashionable to knock Ream, because he's a defender who can't defend. It was fashionable to bash Boggers because he was a 'promising' keeper who'd shown no evidence of promise, other than limiting himself to gifting the opposition one golden chance per game by patting things out in front of him. He was excellent when he came back in last year, and I think pretty much everyone has recognised that.

We tend to think we're hard done by without a decent striker. As someone who lives on the Fylde coast, trust me, we're in fine fettle compared to Blackpool who currently have only 7 professionals on the books and both Chairman and manager refusing to sign players in a Championship Mexican stand off. You couldn't make it up. Shame they're not first up for us!

You would sort of like us to have better aspirations than a Club with 7 professionals on the books. I don't use the lowest common denominator as a measure of well being. That's how Tim Ream gets voted "Player of the Season" - people re-set the bar at really shit and because he was better than that got all confused...
