Not especially. Not so as you'd notice. Maybe about as much as the Scott like the English.Jakerbeef wrote:Far be it for me to be facetious (heh) but you guys do like us Scottish folk right?

Correct, it is those who just blame the 'English' for everything whilst conveiniently ignoring the amount of their own countrymen who share the 'blame' for Scotlands position.Jakerbeef wrote:Far be it for me to be facetious (heh) but you guys do like us Scottish folk right?

Re: You take the high road...
I get on really well with all the Scots I know. There's a rivalry come six nations time but otherwise they're ace. Fortunately only ever come across one of the genuine 'hate the English' types.
Survey last week had 63% of Scots thinking positively about the English and only 52% of English and Welsh thinking positively about the Scots, so the idea that 'we'd like them if only they'd stop hating the English' may well be bollocks.

See, regardless as to which way the vote goes, is it not fair to assume that they're going to end up with a divided nation afterwards? One side's not going to turn to the other and say "Oh yeah look, you were right".

Re: You take the high road...
Judging by my Facebook feed it is pretty divided already. I have a daily stream of regurgitated shite saying how thick you are if you vote no because the no campaign are negative bullies. Anyone stating something pro-no is jumped upon and bullied far more than anything I've seen since leaving school in the 80s. Quite pathetic.Bruce Rioja wrote:See, regardless as to which way the vote goes, is it not fair to assume that they're going to end up with a divided nation afterwards? I'm seeing exactly the same on mine. Also this morning, some shite about 'If you vote no then you haven't been listening to any of the debate' which went onto suggest that - and even if you have and you still vote no then you're too stupid to have understood it anyway.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Judging by my Facebook feed it is pretty divided already. I've been watching these so called debates, both the Salmond ones and the QT style ones. There has been little debate and lots of you're making it up, no you're making it up and my expert is more expert than your expert.Bruce Rioja wrote:I'm seeing exactly the same on mine. Mrs AT is Scottish and I'm part Scottish. She's pissed off that she has no say in the whole thing.

I've lived through two such referenda. They are extremely divisive (even within the same family let alone neighbourhood) and the wounds take years to heal.Bruce Rioja wrote:I'm seeing exactly the same on mine. In fact, I fear that upon losing a rump of the bullies of the 'Yes' camp will consider their options and we may have a period of lowish-level direct action and possible even a period of terrorist activity. More like Wales in the 70's and 80's than Northern Ireland but some serious development nonetheless.

Re: You take the high road...
Just a question.... & I don't think the final result will be a "yes" btw ... the vote is in 2 weeks. Results more or less immediate. If it IS a "yes" the separation is gauged for a year or 18 months later as there will be a lot of organisation needed. Meanwhile there's a General Election in May.
Would the Scotties get a vote in that ?

Realistically the separation will take longer than 18 months. I suspect the Scots wont get a vote in a GE, but you can bet Salmond has told them they will

Of course they'll get a vote. They're voting for their local MP who'll be their representation until the formal split. Until that day it's still business as usual.
