It's his first game for Christ sake. I'll make a fair judgement at the end of the season. That goes for all the newbies

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

It’s been a bug-bear of mine since Derby. Madine is one to dwell on his mis-fortune in front of goal – and he gets down on his luck when the ball is still in play. Against Brighton, that chance he hit with his left peg (highlights about 2:20 in) which the keeper saves – he’s still on his knees, cursing his rotten luck, while Clayton is heading the ball back into the danger area. Trouble is Madine’s not dangerous if he’s sat on the ground thinking ‘woe is me’.
I’m pleased he got his goal and the manner of it will come as a huge relief to all (notably Lennon who has backed him since day one), but this is one thing that needs ironing out. Never give up on anything until the ball is dead or the whistle is blown.

Thought the same watching those highlights. Hopefully it will change now he's bagged one.

On the subject of Madine, there's a stat on twitter, and I admit that I can't be certain of it's validity (perhaps DSB could confirm?), which says that on average he wins more aerial duels per game than any other player in the league.
That doesn't help with our goalscoring problems, but it does tell us that he might not be absolutely useless.

I'd like to know who is the arbiter of what an aerial duel constitutes and who judges who wins it and on what grounds and whether there is an aerial ombudsman for the extreme cases...Nicko58 wrote:On the subject of Madine, there's a stat on twitter, and I admit that I can't be certain of it's validity (perhaps DSB could confirm?), which says that on average he wins more aerial duels per game than any other player in the league.

It probably suggests that we play a lot more aerial balls than anyone else in the leagueNicko58 wrote:On the subject of Madine, there's a stat on twitter, and I admit that I can't be certain of it's validity (perhaps DSB could confirm?), which says that on average he wins more aerial duels per game than any other player in the league.

Aye, Madine has won more aerial duels per game than any other player in the Championship - 8.9 per game. Wolves' Ebanks-Landell is second on 8.2, so it's quite a margin.
I can't find a number for aerial duels attempted by team, but our aerial success rate of 53.4% is fourth in the division - Brentford are top on 61.1% then Brizzle City and Cardiff (the relative troubles of those teams might say something about aerial success: I assume it includes winning defensive headers, which you would expect to do more often than not but implies you are on the back foot).
On another note, the division's top two for passing accuracy (with 90.0%) are Mark Davies and Joe Mason; Danns is ninth on 88.6%. Prince is top for interceptions (4.4 per game) with Dervite ninth on 3.4.

I always felt Lennon made a bit of a mistake sending Mason back so quickly. Thought he had something about him and I'd happily have him now. Not an option of course.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Aye, Madine has won more aerial duels per game than any other player in the Championship - 8.9 per game. Bit more digging:
We've averaged 46.2 aerial duels per game - 10th in the division. Rotherham are top on 53.3, McDons bottom on 26.3

Nah, I can't blame him for that. We obviously needed a new broom, any new manager will want to get his own men in (and we didn't have any money to spend - hence Twardzik being January's only permanent signing), and sometimes you get a bit of wheat thrown out with the chaff.BWFC_Insane wrote:I always felt Lennon made a bit of a mistake sending Mason back so quickly. Put another way: maybe Mason didn't impress Lennon enough in training to suggest he should be retained. It's also possible, given we already had McNaughton, that we wouldn't have been able to borrow another Cardiff player - ie ALF.

Aye not in the "this is a terrible mistake" way, just that I think he offered something to us with his running the channels and all. Would have liked to see him a bit more under Lennon but as you say it meant we could get ALF.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Nah, I can't blame him for that. Maybe NL thought we had enough with Clough and Clayton?

I'm sure, though Clough hadn't broken through at that stage, in fact neither had Clayton IIRC.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Maybe NL thought we had enough with Clough and Clayton?

Didn't NL get the (best of the) Dev squad training with the seniors, to see exactly what we had on the books? I might be remembering that wrong.BWFC_Insane wrote:I'm sure, though Clough hadn't broken through at that stage, in fact neither had Clayton IIRC.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Maybe NL thought we had enough with Clough and Clayton?
Could be that, could be just wanting to clear the decks (did *any* Freedman loanee stay?), could be wanting to get his own men in. As you say, it's not a biggie in the list of might-have-beens.

On a side note, have they done away with the goal music?
