You couldn't fcuking make it up.
We didn't spend a penny on transfer fees in the past year, yet we've spent £1M on agents fees - is it any wonder we are in the shit

We signed a lot of players though, and that usually brings with it agents fees. I'm not really sure this is outrageous or shocking beyond the fact that football agents make a lot of money (but we already knew this).Peter Thompson wrote:You couldn't fcuking make it up.

So we haven't got a pot to piss in & are shopping in the bargain basement and still can't afford anyone - yet we somehow find enough cash down the back of the couch to pay £1M to agents.
£1M when you are absolutely broke is a fair amount to spend on agents for shite loan players & shite free transfers.

I agree, but not sure how we can avoid them? Only talk to players with no agents in this day and age doesn't seem likely...Clearly other Clubs aren't talking to the same agents we are (or not as often) as Clubs declare different amounts...Peter Thompson wrote:So we haven't got a pot to piss in & are shopping in the bargain basement and still can't afford anyone - yet we somehow find enough cash down the back of the couch to pay £1M to agents.

Well would you rather have signed nobody (I mean ignore the fact that the signings have been poor in the main)?Peter Thompson wrote:So we haven't got a pot to piss in & are shopping in the bargain basement and still can't afford anyone - yet we somehow find enough cash down the back of the couch to pay £1M to agents.

It isn't like we could have spent £1M on players because they themselves would have had agents fees attached.
Agents fees are just a cost of transfers. However we did our deals that money would still be required.

Yes looking at the players brought in we would have been better served signing nobody, if it's cost us £1M just to sign them.BWFC_Insane wrote:Well would you rather have signed nobody (I mean ignore the fact that the signings have been poor in the main)?

Its been £1M wasted because none of the players brought in have warranted high agents fee's - if the club knew prior to signing them that they had to pay high agents fee's, then at least try and bring in players with a bit of quality - not waste the money on absolute shite.
Out of interest, who authorises such payments the chairman ?

I rather suspect given the numbers signed we are paying relatively small agents fees.Peter Thompson wrote:Yes looking at the players brought in we would have been better served signing nobody, if it's cost us £1M just to sign them.BWFC_Insane wrote:Well would you rather have signed nobody (I mean ignore the fact that the signings have been poor in the main)?

I agree that players recruited have been terrible but that is the fault of the manager. And how he has chosen to spend his budget.

He's right about one thing though. It's fookin depressing to have paid that kind of money to agents with good players on their books, never mind some of the duffers we've attractedBruce Rioja wrote:Which is otherwise avoidable how, exactly?Peter Thompson wrote:So we haven't got a pot to piss in & are shopping in the bargain basement and still can't afford anyone - yet we somehow find enough cash down the back of the couch to pay £1M to agents.

I appreciate that, but the gist of PT's gripe appears to be that we've managed to rustle up £1m in the first place.Harry Genshaw wrote:He's right about one thing though. Its not - why would being able to find £1M be a gripe ? my point is that we are absolutely skint, but have still wasted £1M of what little cash we had on agents fee's for shite players - its not my money, but if it was I wouldn't be authorising any agents fee's unless the player or players in question were worth it.Bruce Rioja wrote:I appreciate that, but the gist of PT's gripe appears to be that we've managed to rustle up £1m in the first place.Harry Genshaw wrote:He's right about one thing though. No mention whatsoever about supposed value here though. We've probably signed 12 players, excluding some loanees in the last year. That works out at less then £100k per player. That doesn't include any fees we might have incurred to get players off the books (thinking Mills here and a couple of others).
Getting Trotter out on loan should be meritorious of half that fee.

I'd have thought some if not all of the loans would attract agent fees, plus there'll be agent fees for contract extensions, for example Zach Clough.Worthy4England wrote:We've probably signed 12 players, excluding some loanees in the last year. That works out at less then £100k per player.

The only club I know of that won't pay them is Blackpool. It seems to have worked out all right for them.

Re: If carlsberg did transfer threads.....This would be it!
is there a reason why clubs still pay agents? isn't it time the game sorted it out?? surely an agent works for the player - to get the player a good deal. the players are generally VERY well paid - so should be able to pay for their own agent - as - let's face it - the agent WORKS FOR THE PLAYER! maybe I'm missing something?

I think they used to do that before the height of TV money and player powerthebish wrote:is there a reason why clubs still pay agents? isn't it time the game sorted it out?? surely an agent works for the player - to get the player a good deal. the players are generally VERY well paid - so should be able to pay for their own agent - as - let's face it - the agent WORKS FOR THE PLAYER! maybe I'm missing something?
